The Keenan family moved its potato operation to Prince Edward Island from New Brunswick in the late 1960's. In 1982 Ray and Alvin Keenan acquired the company, which consists of a growing, packaging and marketing operation.

The company presently farms a significant acreage of land located in Eastern PEI. This land is worked on a three or four year crop rotation of barley, hay, flax and the principal crop; potatoes.

In 1993, the facility commenced operation under the name Rollo Bay Holdings Ltd (RBH). This company is structured with a very clear goal: to produce and market a top quality product.

RBH is one of the largest agricultural entities in eastern PEI. Currently, there are twenty full time employees and as many as sixty-five seasonal employees. We have been able to present a worker-friendly environment by keeping pace with new technology. As a result, we are able to pack product more efficiently and with less pressure on the personnel.

Over the past few years the company has grown considerably. RBH has a sound market perspective. This has driven important decisions to acquire equipment and warehousing facilities that are state of the art.

The packaging plant, located in Rollo Bay contains an automated processing line for grading, sizing and packaging. Adjacent to this is a 100' by 50' refrigerated storage area for storing packaged product. We are also furnished with 2000 square feet of office space.

The company has temperature and humidity controlled storage capable of storing 400,000 cwt of raw product.

The crop year commences in March with equipment preparation. In early April, seed is purchased, transported and prepared.

Planting starts in May and weather permitting, concludes in early June.

This combined with tillage and nutrient application takes approximately six weeks.

During the summer months the crop is tended and cultivated. The harvest begins in late August or early September. It can be completed in as few as eight weeks under good weather conditions.

As the harvest begins, so does the operation of the grading/packaging facility.

RBH operates this facility from September to June.

RBH sees great potential in potato production and marketing. Our packaging facility is one of the most modern in North America, which allows us to achieve pinpoint accuracy in potato grading and sizing.

We are very well situated in PEI to provide top quality service that customers and consumers demand. Current transportation systems allow us to offer next day delivery to most areas, which allows us to provide the freshest possible potatoes. As a farm, RBH is very unique in that we grow, pack and ship our own potatoes.
